Children and Art

Every child can benefit from some art, music and drama in their education. These subjects have a lot to give and they shouldn't be forgotten.
Many schools are cutting funding they had for teaching the arts. With the increased focus on drilling students in the "three r's: reading, 'riting and 'rithmetic," children who might one year have gone on a field trip to, for example, a children's theatrical production, now find themselves practicing test taking during this time.

Schools with more children who struggle with academics have been the most likely to cut other programs in order to take the time to drill these students. The fear is that if these kids do not succeed, more government funding will be taken away. It's very ironic, because students who struggle in one discipline may do well in another. The self-esteem gained from doing well in one area can give the child the strength to keep trying in an area he or she finds difficult.
Children who are offered a well-rounded education receive incredible benefits from the arts being included in their education.
Any academic discipline has its own individual merits. We don't teach kids mathematics so that they will read better, and vice versa. A well-rounded education does result in children being able to make a myriad of connections and become multi-faceted adults with more interests and skills than children who were exposed to a limited number of subjects of study. Each discipline should be taught because each discipline offers the development of valuable skills and adds to the child's world view.

The Healing Arts

Art goes beyond the mere act of rubbing color onto canvas, or scribbling words onto blank pages, it is a form of expression that provides a physical manifestation of emotional perspective. A recent concept erected onto this emotional foundation has some discovering that art can not only help people express their true feelings while dealing with personal problems, but that the very act of creativity can literally be a healing process. The American Cancer Society supports the belief that art therapy can actually help cancer patients cope with their emotions.

Art therapy is a method of treatment by means of artistic creativity. Art therapy is one of the most flexible and, at the same time, deepest in the arsenal of methods used by psychologists and psychotherapists.

When you drawingsculpting, or engaging in a literary form to describe a problem or a mood, you seem to get a coded message from yourselffrom your own subconscious. The method of art therapy can be attributed to the most ancient and natural forms of the correction of emotional states, which many people use on their own - to remove the accumulated mental stress, relax and concentrate.

Art as a Special Way of Communication

Art is a microscope which the artist fixes on the secrets of his soul, and shows to people these secrets which are common to all.

Art is a human activity having for its purpose the transmission to others of the highest and the best feelings to which men have risen.

Art is a microscope which the artist fixes on the secrets of his soul, and shows to people these secrets which are common to all.
(Leo Tolstoy)

Examination of art as a special way of communication and studying of its socio-communicative function - have been one of the fundamental aesthetic problems for theorists and practitioners of art through the history.

Through art people are able to share not only feelings, but also thoughts. It doesn't matter which tool is used - word, sound, color or any other, art is a creation of an emotional image of reality by its author. Art is a way of communication, which is necessary for the existence of human being, our development and progress.

Art makes our life brighter, emotions deeper, feelings sharper… Communication easier and more pleasant…
